Bacteria, Antibiotics and Resistance

Lesson 3

These videos describe how antibiotics work to kill or stop the growth of bacteria

How do Antibiotics work?: Penicillin

This video describes the classes of antibiotics and how Penicillin works to kill bacteria.

Antibiotics that target DNA and RNA

Next we examine antibiotics that affect the genetic material of the cell, RNA and DNA. We also describe how some antibiotics are bacteriostatic (stop growth) and others bacteriocidal (kill).

Antibiotics that Target the Ribosome

Many antibiotics target the ribosome which makes proteins. We’ll also describe some remaining antibiotics that target metabolism and the cell membrane.
